One week after winning the women's heptathlon with 5,561 points, UC Santa Barbara's Hope Bender won an event and finished third in two others at the Big West Outdoor Championships at Cal State Northridge. The junior won the 400 hurdles in a program-record 58.02, placed third in the 100 hurdles (13.73) and ran a leg on the Gauchos' 4x400 relay (3:44.16) that finished third.
